Nutritional Therapy

“I did Nutritional Therapy with Beverley and it was life changing. I highly recommend it!”  Allison Blakely (Glasgow)

What is Nutritional Therapy?

Nutritional Therapy involves finding out the underlying causes, risk factors, triggers and drivers for a symptom or collection of symptoms which often make up specific medical conditions. Over our lifetime, the foods we eat (and don't eat!), our lifestyle, behaviours, choices, cravings and stress levels can all play a part in the pathway towards disease and suboptimal health. Of course, we can find a way of suppressing symptoms for a while with medication and sometimes this is essential, but more often than not we are simply masking symptoms without getting at the root cause of the problem. Nutritional Therapy works in conjunction with conventional medicine and I refer people back to their GP for further investigation where appropriate.

How does Nutritional Therapy work?

Nutritional Therapy takes an evidence based Functional Medicine approach to Health  recognising the interconnections between disease and body systems.  Because of this, we take a lengthy case history going through each body system individually as we uncover clues that in many cases are linked to one another. For example, if a client has mental health challenges, there will often be corresponding challenges with their digestive health. There may also be multiple nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalance and others. ONLY by tackling the root causes of each of the presenting health challenges in each body system can we truly work towards balance and wellness. Nutritional Therapy works by supporting each body system to work optimally and this is achieved by tailoring and agreeing a specific Nutritional Plan for each client together with lifestyle recommendations. Nutrient and or herbal supplementation may be advised where appropriate and only for a specific time period. Drug- Nutrient interactions are taken into consideration prior to any supplement recommendations. This is also why self medicating with supplements and herbs is a risky thing unless you have spoken to a qualified practitioner.

Who needs Nutritional Therapy?

Everyone!! We all eat, we all drink and we are all making the best out of a bad job when it comes to modern living! Let's face it, 'stress' is the default position of most of us as we work long hours, often with a long commute and we come home shattered, only to face dogs that need walking and children that need feeding, homework to be done and shirts to iron! It's no wonder that we are seduced by the supermarket ready meals and snacks which may answer our short term problems, but only create new ones further down the line as we find that these foods which are overly processed and compromised nutritionally are wreaking havoc with our health. Endless digestive problems such as bloating, indigestion, IBS and constipation are commonplace and are seen by many as the norm.  Poor immune health with people facing several coughs and colds a year and mental health challenges are just a few of the issues that have come to be accepted as part of 21st century living.

We work with all ages and a range of health conditions. We also offer a package rate for couples attending together for fertility support.

I have been specialising in supporting chronic UTI/IC for the last four years having training and ongoing mentorship with internationally renowned chronic UTI specialist Ruth Kriz. I have also been invited to lecture on this important topic and am honoured  to be able to shed a light on new approaches and research.

I also have a passion for mental health and my interest and research into Nutritional Psychiatry recently led to an invitation to give a lecture to the Royal College of Psychiatrists at their annual conference in York.  I also have  advanced training in Hormone Health for men and women. What do I have to do or bring to a consultation?

The consultation process involves the client completing a lengthy functional medicine questionnaire prior to attending the clinic appointment. At the initial consultation we will go through the client's medical history and health concerns in more detail. A nutritional plan will be discussed and agreed with the client and further recommendations for testing via the GP or privately may be recommended. Clients will receive a nutrition plan, lifestyle and supplement recommendations. We normally follow up with clients about a month later.

What does it cost?
