As my honours degree included Psychology, I found myself quite by accident working in Medical Sales in the pharmaceutical industry, firstly in Psychiatry and shortly afterwards in Diabetes and Gastroenterology. But, it was a move to the far north of Scotland thirty five years ago that sowed a seed in me which was to become a lifelong journey into Health in its broadest sense as I just happened to move next door to Scotland’s first qualified Medical Herbalist.
During my Caithness years I was also privileged to develop my other passions as again quite by accident an opportunity presented itself to start my own Dance and Drama school, writing and producing many shows.
A move to Aberdeen twenty years ago brought new beginnings and life seemed determined to take me back into the Pharmaceutical Industry. This time I found myself working in Osteoporosis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and finally Diabetes, promoting products and discussing guidelines with NHS customers. Again, there seems to have been a higher purpose to this seemingly, unplanned manoeuvre back into the medical world. The NHS had changed completely with new structures and endless guidelines and the insight I have gained has been invaluable in preparing me for my next move!
They used to say life begins at forty but personally, I’m going with 50, as what had been a hobby fast became a new career opportunity as following three years of hard graft, plus 200 clinical hours, I qualified as a Nutritional Therapist in 2014! But the study doesn't stop there.Nutritional therapyinvolves constant research and every client can be assured of a very detailed and thorough investigation. In 2015, I trained in Cancer Nutrition with ION in London. My passion for Functional Medicine took me to the US in March 2016 to further my training and expertise and gain my AFMCP. In June 2016 I went to The Royal Society Of Medicine in London to train in Genomics Testing. This will allow me to bring my clients all that this cutting edge branch of medicine has to offer in what is undoubtedly a fast growing field. I've since trained further in Advanced Hormones with IFM and Fertility and was one of the first practitioners to complete post graduate training with the Fertility Nutrition Centre. I have developed my training and knowledge in autoimmune disease and also the fascinating and growing field of Nutritional Psychiatry and in 2019 had the great honour of being invited to give a lecture to the Royal College of Psychiatrists in York. In 2020 I began my journey into the field of chronic UTI/IC as I was privileged to begin working with renowned UTI specialist Ruth Kriz based in the US. This was a happy accident as Ruth and I shared a mutual patient and this lovely lady asked if I would be prepared to work with Ruth on a joint approach and the rest as they say is history. I remember that day as if it was yesterday and how blown away I was when I met Ruth and she shared her passion and an overview of her research with me. I knew that day I was in the presence of someone very special and I was deeply honoured to work with this amazing and gifted professional and benefit from her mentorship. Since commencing this new pathway into supporting those with chronic UTI, I have brought the state of the art Microgen testing for urine, vaginal and semen analysis into the UK and Europe via Regenerus Laboratoriesand have developed a comprehensive service including referrals for prescribing. I have also been invited to lecture at national conferences on this cutting edge approach. As a clinic we now work with clients all over the world. More on out UTI work here. In early 2025, Beverley will be launching a training course for practitioners wishing to develop their knowledge and expertise in this therapy area. If you are a practitioner and would be interested in training in this approach to support chronic UTI/IC, please email us at [email protected] and we can add you to our waiting list.
My own journey into Nutritional Therapy followed my daughter's experience with glandular fever at 14 years old, following which she endured several years of ill health, including chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and the severest migraines imaginable. As a mum, you will do anything when your child is so unwell and my dogged determination to find answers led me into the fascinating world of Nutritional Medicine. It is this experience which drives me as a person and as a practitioner and gives me such a strong desire to help others going through similar challenges. This really is life changing stuff and the joy from helping people uncover their own triggers and drivers and turning things around is just phenomenal!
